Mrs Lena Dargham
Acting General Director
LIBNOR
Dear Mrs. Dargham
I warmly thank you for your most cooperative attitude.
During our meeting of December 18, 2008, I displayed the strategic vision of our syndicate regarding the process of regulating, harmonizing and standardizing the profession of Laboratory Medicine in Lebanon.
Towards that end, a process began of study and evaluation of different aspects of the issue, considered from many possible perspectives. That exercise ended up in the design of a project that is meant to be smoothly accepted by all colleagues, and straightforwardly implemented.
Being the normal pathway to the set target,“Accreditation” represented the key ingredient of the action plan that comprises the following:
1- Promote the culture of “Accreditation”, especially to colleagues who are practicing in the private sector (most Hospital Laboratories are already engaged in “Accreditation”); attention is made to the element of the financial burden and the long term cost effectiveness.
2- Prepare a unified reference of accreditation standards that may be ultimately officially adopted by the MOH. This part could be better achieved through the group effort of a committee with a significant representativity (MOH, NSSF, Syndicate of Hospitals, Accreditation certifying institution and Clinical Laboratory representatives from different configuration in terms of volume of work, geographic location, hospital or private).
3- Organize introductory and informative seminars for Clinical Laboratory specialists and Laboratory technologists.
4- Run, as a first step, the exercise on voluntary and trial basis.
5- Assess, introduce necessary amendments and work towards making “Accreditation” obligatory.
It is obvious that item “2” is a corner stone in the whole process and your institution is kindly requested to adopt and spearhead this part of the work; such a commitment from your side will provide this project credibility, professionalism and legitimacy.
Awaiting for your comments, I thank you in advance and look forward to a fruitful and genuine cooperation.
Regards,
Dr. Adel Mastori
President
